Kisinputi’oqsip menaj nike (you can die properly now), by Ana Sokolović, with text by Michelle Sylliboy, is a moving and timely memorial to the children who never made it home from residential schools. It was commissioned by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and first performed by Emma Pennell. It receives its premiere in Nova Scotia at this concert. Emma also brings us two arias by Ian Cusson, whose Empire of Wild will be performed at the Canadian Opera Company next season.

John Adams's The Chairman Dances - a "foxtrot for orchestra" - comprises music from his iconic opera Nixon in China, and we conclude in style, with a much-loved classic: Ravel's brilliant orchestration of Mussorgsky's tour-de-force of pictorial music. Don’t miss this year’s grand finale, featuring a 70-piece orchestra!
