Ana Sokolovic's moving and timely memorial to the victims of residential schools, with text by Michelle Sylliboy, was written for Emma Pennell and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. It receives its premiere in Nova Scotia at this concert. Emma also brings us two arias by Ian Cusson, whose Empire of Wild will be performed at the Canadian Opera Company next season.
John Adams's The Chairman Dances - a "foxtrot for orchestra" - comprises music from his iconic opera Nixon in China, and we conclude in style, with a much-loved classic: Ravel's brilliant orchestration of Mussorgsky's tour-de-force of pictorial music. Don’t miss this year’s grand finale, featuring a 70-piece orchestra!
