We begin with the Rococo elegance of Michael Haydn, Joseph's lesser-known brother, then move to a ground-breaking percussion classic by the great French-American modernist, Edgard Varèse. To conclude, the first of Beethoven's five late string quartets, astoundingly original compositions that changed the world of chamber music forever.
