Scotial Distancing: Round 2

May 23 – June 6, 2021

We’re back for another round of chamber music at its best…virtually.

Fred and Elizabeth Fountain, Prime Sponsors

Welcome to Scotial Distancing Round 2: our online 2021 festival!

Nova Scotia is battling another COVID outbreak and we are all in lockdown. We can't wait to get back into the concert hall and enjoy live concerts with in-person audience.

But until then, I'd like to invite you to join us online between Sunday May 23 and Sunday June 6, for six concerts and two workshops. All are live, free and exclusive to Scotia Festival of Music. You can find everything on our YouTube or Facebook channels.

I am so pleased that violinists James Ehnes and Kerson Leong have agreed to play for us the live solo recitals that were already programmed in our festival. In addition, we'll hear a typically varied piano recital by our old friend, the superb John Novacek; cellist Cameron Crozman will scale the heights of two monumental works for solo cello; we'll share a great recital by social media harp sensation Kristan Toczko; and Sageev Oore will bring us live improvised music to accompany Buster Keaton's uproarious film One Week.

Also we're pleased to offer two special workshops: Six Steps to a Creative Life, with the amazing Dinuk Wijeratne; and a deep dive into livestreaming with Scotia Festival tech heroes Andrew Coll and Neven Prostran.

For further details, see our programs below.

Scotial Distancing Round 2 will bring great music and musicians into your home. We'd be delighted for you to join us!

Tonight, she brings us a wonderfully varied program of harp classics and treats.

Sponsored by Oriel MacLennan and Judith Fingard
Happy Birthday, Judith Grant!

We were looking forward to seeing cellist Cameron Crozman once more at this year's festival, and we're so glad he has agreed to play for us live from his home in Montreal. He takes on two of the most demanding works for solo cello, Britten's elegiac Third Suite, written for Mstislav Rostropovich, and Bach's Sixth Suite, written for a 5-string cello, but now played on the usual four strings by fearless cellists!

  • Benjamin Britten – Cello Suite No. 3, Op. 87

Super-inventive Halifax pianist Sageev Oore will revive the fascinating lost art of silent film accompaniment as he improvises live incidental music to accompany the action! And as a bonus, saxophonists Tristan de Borba and Nicole Strum will bring us incredible virtuoso duets by contemporary composers Christian Lauba (France) and Tebogo Monnakgotla (Sweden).
